Milkbar's Famous Birthday Cake
Have you ever heard of a super popular bakery in New York called Milkbar? If you haven't, then you're in for a treat, literally! They are known for taking cereal milk and making all kinds of delicious ice cream and treats from it, as well as creative layer cakes!!
This recipe is like a typical funfetti cake BUT waaay elevated and so much better! A family member had requested this cake for her birthday. I had actually never heard of Milkbar store and after doing some research, decided to give this cake a whirl and SO happy I did!
There's a few odd items I didn't have that I had to order for this cake: A 6" spring mold that gets removed once the cake has set. Clear vanilla which has a unique taste over brown and is a must for this cake. Grape seed oil is required for the crumbs which I happened to have but not everyone has this item. I would not recommend substituting olive oil as it's strong in flavor. Vegetable oil would be the best bet for a neutral flavor. And lastly, citric acid in the frosting. I found the spring mold, citric acid, and clear vanilla all on Amazon. Grape seed oil can be found at most local grocery stores.
This cake wasn't hard to make at all. It's definitely involved.. broken into several steps between baking the crumbs first, to baking a sheet cake, making the frosting, cutting the cake rounds, assembling the cake then letting it set in the fridge.
**My only critique of this recipe would be to double the frosting recipe. I felt there just wasn't enough for the 6" cake I made. And my family LOVES frosting!!
